The Tennessee Titans’ road losing streak continued on Thursday night as the Pittsburgh Steelers repulsed a late effort by the Titans to win 20-16.
The Titans were 0-8 on the road this season coming into the game after losing seven consecutive away from home. In contrast, the Steelers went from 5-3 to 5-1, tying for first place in the AFC North.
The two teams traded field goals for the most of the evening in a competitive battle. With 8:59 remaining in the fourth quarter, Chris Boswell’s field goal gave the Steelers a 16–13 lead.
With 4:02 left, the Titans responded with a field goal of their own, cutting the lead to 16-16. The Steelers were able to win, nevertheless, by running out the time.
The running game of the Steelers was essential to their triumph. Jaylen Warren added 85 yards on the run in addition to 72 yards and a touchdown from Najee Harris.
The triumph was also significantly aided by the Steelers’ defense. They limited the Titans to only 288 total yards and forced four sacks of Titans quarterback Will Levis.
Levis Displays Promise Despite Setback
Levis played well for the Titans despite the defeat. 20 out of 33 throws were completed by him for 189 yards and a score. On top of that, he ran 51 yards.
Levis had a few plays that demonstrated his promise, including as a third-quarter 40-yard touchdown pass to Robert Woods. He did, however, also commit a few errors, including two interceptions.
For a rookie quarterback, Levis played a respectable game all around. He shown that he has what it takes to be a successful NFL player. He still has to work on being more accurate and making better decisions, though.
The Steelers’ Defense Improves
The game-winning factor for the Steelers was their defense. They caused three turnovers and limited the Titans to only 288 total yards.
The Steelers had an especially strong pass rush. They placed pressure on Levis all night long and sacked him four times.
The Steelers’ defense performed admirably in thwarting the Titans’ running strategy. In the contest, the Titans managed just 99 yards of rushes.
Steelers Are Having a Wave
The Steelers are now tied for first position in the AFC North after winning four of their past five games. As the second half of the season approaches, they are riding high.
The Steelers boast a strong defense, a gifted running attack, and a competent young quarterback in Kenny Pickett. They are equipped with everything needed to have a successful postseason run.
Steelers’ Upcoming Road
The Steelers are a squad that is on the rise, despite having a difficult schedule in the second half of the season. If they can maintain their current level of play, they stand a decent chance of qualifying for the postseason.
On Sunday, November 13th, the Steelers take on the Cincinnati Bengals in their next game. The Steelers have defeated the Bengals twice in the last two seasons, despite the fact that they are among the better teams in the AFC.
In the second part of the season, the Steelers play games against the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Giants, and Baltimore Ravens. Those clubs are all competitive for the playoffs.
If the Steelers want to go to the playoffs, they must perform at their highest level. They have the ability and the drive to succeed, though.
