Returning this year, BlizzCon is larger than ever! On November 3, 2023, Blizzard’s yearly fan convention got underway with an opening ceremony that featured a ton of announcements for all of the company’s most well-known properties, such as World of Warcraft, Overwatch 2, Diablo 4, and Hearthstone.
The most important announcements from the BlizzCon 2023 opening ceremony are summarized here:
A World at War
- The War Within expansion for World of Warcraft: Blizzard has revealed plans to add more content to the game. A new continent, new dungeons, raids, and a new threat—the archaic Void civilization—will all be included in the expansion.
- World of Warcraft Classic: Cataclysm expansion: Blizzard has also revealed that World of Warcraft Classic will receive the Cataclysm expansion in 2024. The big World of Warcraft expansion Cataclysm brought many new features and adjustments to the game, such as the addition of Worgen Druids and Goblin Shamans as new race and class combinations.
In Overwatch 2
- Three new heroes for Overwatch 2 have been revealed by Blizzard: Sojourn, Mauga, and the Space Ranger. Canadian damage hero Sojourn is proficient with both a railgun and a rocket launcher. Australian tank hero Mauga has a grappling hook and a huge hammer. Support hero Space Ranger can teleport and deploy a healing beam.
- PvE mode: Overwatch 2’s new PvE feature was also revealed by Blizzard. In the PvE mode, players will engage in coordinated combat against AI-controlled adversaries.
Diablo IV
- Season of the Blood: Blizzard said that Diablo 4 would include a new season named the Season of the Blood. The Blood Lord is a brand-new opponent class that the season will bring along with new prizes and challenges.
- First expansion: Diablo 4’s first expansion, which is scheduled for release in late 2024, was also revealed by Blizzard. Along with new areas, dungeons, and raids, the expansion will bring in the Necromancer class.
Fireplace
- New expansion: Voyage to the Sunken City is a brand-new Hearthstone expansion that Blizzard has revealed. The Lost City of the Tol’vir is a new game mode, along with new cards and elements that will be included in the expansion.
- New game mode: In the roguelike Lost City of the Tol’vir, players engage in combat with progressively tougher opponents while exploring a dungeon that is created by a computer program.
Additional statements
- Warcraft Rumble: Blizzard has revealed Warcraft Rumble, a brand-new mobile game. In the real-time strategy game Warcraft Rumble, users gather and enhance Warcraft characters before using them in combat with other players.
- Xbox Game Pass: Blizzard also said that on launch day, Diablo 4, Overwatch 2, and World of Warcraft would all be available on Xbox Game Pass.

World of Warcraft: Internal Conflict
The Void Harbinger’s homeworld, Xal’atath, is the new continent that players will visit in the War Within expansion. For Azeroth to be spared from annihilation, players will need to work together to combat the Void.
The Evoker, a new class, will also be included in the expansion. The Evoker is a versatile hybrid class with the ability to alternate between the Devastation and Preservation specialties.
Cataclysm in World of Warcraft Classic
World of Warcraft Classic will undergo several modifications as a result of the Cataclysm expansion, such as:

Firelands and Dragon Soul are two new raid levels.
